City of Surprise Public Safety Facility and City Hall, Surprise, AZ

Surprise City Hall consists of a 4-story, 134,000 square foot facility which houses city staff and council members. A 419-car parking garage was provided including 24 accessible parking spaces. Also included is a single story, 26,000 square foot facility designed to meet future growth needs for Surprise. This single story facility will be leased by the City for approximately 10 years until the space is needed for city personnel. Project scope includes all related site development work. Ground breaking for the City’s first ever City Hall proper occurred June 2007 and construction completed April 2009. Construction Value $25 million.

ABACUS provided cost estimating services on the Surprise Public Safety Facility. The facility includes a 92,000
square foot Police Department and Municipal Court facility as well as offices for Fire Administration, Broadcast Communications and the Emergency and Traffic Operations Center.

The Surprise Police Department component consists of approximately 46,000 square feet and includes offices to provide the primary functions of administration, command, patrol and communication support center for a current staff of 91 employees.

The Surprise Municipal Court is approximately 23,000 square feet and consists of courtrooms, associated Judges Chambers, jury deliberation rooms, office space for support staff, office and interview rooms for the City
Prosecutor and secure space for detainee holding.

The Fire Administration portion of this facility is approximately 9,700 square feet and consists of offices for the Fire Chief and Assistant Chief, Fire Marshall and staff, fire education and fire administrative staff.

Broadcast Communications is approximately 3,960 square feet and facilitates the broadcast capabilities for the City of Surprise to broadcast over local television station.

Emergency and Traffic Operations Center is approximately 9,500 SF.
