First National Building, Detroit, MI

This project consists of a 26-story above grade office/retail building with 2 basement levels located in the heart of downtown Detroit.  The building occupies an entire city block along Cadillac Square and was actually developed as two buildings which are architecturally the same.  The West Tower commenced construction in 1919 and was completed in 1924; the East Tower commenced in 1924 and was completed in 1928.  The architect (Albert Kahn) was known as the architect to Detroit's early auto czars and this building was designed in a neo-classical style, none-the-less exemplifies clean functional lines.  It has an unusual "Z" shape, designed so most offices would have natural light and ventilation.  The exterior façade is primarily limestone and glazing with brick accents.  The parking garage is included in the building and essentially forms the first 8 levels of the East Tower. Construction Value: $200 million.
